need some help with bushings........

i have a 1990 honda civic and i am building it from ground up, i want to put the bushings in myself but i was waondering, how hard is it....... everyone i have talked to said, it's pretty hard. but they where not doing it on a 1990 honda. i think it would be a good thing to have. i talked to a hybrid dude. he said, if i can find anyone to do it for me it would cost like 1,000$ i was like NO!!! so if i can do it myself that would be cool.

I don't see how it could cost $1k! It's not an easy job, but with some time, and impact wrench, and a press, you could do it. (you will have to press some of the bushings in.)

Wait, you do mean suspension bushings, don't you?

If you are talking about motor bushings (rods crank...) don't bother unless you have a reason to replace them. That will be expensive, and MUST be done by a professional with proper tools to machine the crank surfaces, and measure the tolerances to the nearest .0001 inch. Each rod will have a different sized bushing, so it will not be easy.

If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!

thanks.......but i don't know if i can get a press, can i still do it. i am talking about susp bushings. is there any i can put in by hand that will help....like any of the front ones? thanks for your help.

To get them out and put new ones in, you will need a press. Some have just used a torch and burned the old ones out, but it's messy, dangerous, and I wonder what the heat does to the lower arms.

Are you replacing the bushings with OEM rubber or polyurethane bushings? Research the poly stuff really well before you buy. The ride will be harsher and noisier, the bushings may shift out of place, and unless you use a lot of grease, they will squeak.

I have replaced all my bushings with black (graphite) energy suspension urethane bushings....compared to stock they absolutely rule! Very precise and sharp steering.. installing them: it sucks and get ready for some serious $#%^*%(%$^*#$()

+- 12 hours to install using wrenches and pressuretools

wow thanks, i was gonna just do like some of them, like if there easy to do (kinda like the shifter ones were) i'll do them. do you think i should just do all of them if i am gonna do the at all?

Little piece of advice...go out and buy yourself a tub of grease...dip the bushing in it before you install them, and coat the crap outta the spot where the bushing goes as well. This will eliminate pretty much any squeaks those thing will make hehe.

Course recently one of mine seems like i somehow got degreased its loud as hell when it sqeaks i dunno what it is really.

No problem with that... open exhaust system produces enough decibels to eliminate any squeeking

Good tip dough.. Be sure to use the sticky black greas (mobisulpheen) , it does not "desolve" as fast as thinner grease types.
